ABS 12 PNW Regionals

This past weekend the Bend Climbing Team had 8 climbers make the long, wet, drive (thanks parents!) up the Vertical Club Tacoma for the Pacific Northwest ABS Regional Championships.  I admit I was skeptical on how well the comp would be run as it's a pretty small facility.  But, for what the facility lacks in size, it makes up with great wall angles and terrain. The event was well run and the routes were some of the best routes and highest quality I've seen in the last 5 years of Regionals.   I was lucky enough to spend the vast majority of the day with the climbers in isolation so there is a complete lack of pictures from the comp.

While the routes seemed to be hard I have come to the conclusion that while they were difficult they were high quality and a better representation of what the routes will be like at the national level.  I'm very pleased with how well the team climbed.  As a team we finished 4th place in the region out of 12 teams.  To put that in perspective we had 8 climbers compete, 4 of which made it to finals as well as to nationals, the 1st through 3rd place teams had 49, 19, and 19 team members competing.  Not bad for a small team.
